MC!

March 6, 2009

Woke up this morning in a fervent state (raring to go work probably) or at least that was what I thought it was until I realized that I had fever..
Up until now, well, perhaps with the exception of the Black Death.. I didn’t know that.. fever is infectious.. *all thanks to… The Black Fever Carrier!*

—all ye who cast eye upon her shalt yield naught but fever!! ah seng 2009

Anyway, trotted to see the doctor and gotten 2 days mc..
Phew.. I thought that I had busted my chances of getting 2 days from her especially during the part when she asked ‘any phlegm?’ and not being in a particularly good mood I replied saying, ‘yeah.. more than enough to go around’ and that earned me a look of disgust throughout the rest of the consultation..

So.. back home, medicated and whilst waiting for the drowsiness to set in, I decide to write some interesting things I discovered at work..

猪肠粉!

March 5, 2009

Had a chanced encounter that cracked me up today.. I was having my breakfast of ‘猪肠粉’ in the staff dining hall when one of the curious Chinese worker more friendly to me walked up to me and asked what I was having as he had never seen this before.. Without even looking up, I shrugged off with the name but then his eyes got real big as he exclaimed, ‘ I didn’t know Singapore’s pig intestines were so big, could you let me try one please?’

Stiffling a grin, I handed one to him and his reply was, ‘hmm.. pretty big, but quite plain’ and that was when I really had to laughed it out..

Baffled, he finally got it when I explained to him that our ‘猪肠粉’ is actually made of flour..

猪肠粉

All I heard from him as he walked away was a series of heavily accented chinese vulgarities…

Shabbat Shalom!

March 1, 2009

Woke up today and felt as if I’ve been hit by a train.. Unable to get up from bed the normal way.. I ended up having to slink off the bed and slither to the bathroom ‘literally!’ (no doubt getting full marks for imitating a spineless creature)..
‘What have I gotten myself into? Why did I agree to this?’ sort of questions kept pounding my head relentlessly.. I am only thankful for one thing though, that today is sunday.. ’shabbat shalom’ I muttered to myself.. That’s the only word of Hebrew I can remember most vividly from my adventures in Israel.. I certainly hope for peace on my ‘day of no work’ and not forgetting..

‘Shabbat Shalom unto you as well’

As my body begin groaning with effort from every movement, and when even my well seasoned fingers protested.. I decided to head back to bed and relinquished the fight with gravity…… Gravity won the day.. Hurhur.. Hooray…

First Day…

February 28, 2009

I lay motionless on the bathroom floor.. The cool tingling sensation of the wet tiles seeped into my spine.. ‘Hmm’ I thought, at least I can still feel my back. As I struggled to climbed up, every sinew in my body protested and stubbornly refused to let energy flow into them.. ‘Oh well, there’s only so much punishment a body can take.. perhaps and maybe a little while more’ I thought, and literally slink back unto the bathroom floor as I recalled the day’s event…..
